Easy to carry mountain stream pack rod
When lure fishing in mountain streams, there are many situations where a pack rod that can be stored compactly comes in handy.
I would like to explain in detail from the perspective of a rod manufacturer about the convenience and disadvantages of pack rods, which are gaining attention in the stream lure world.
Pack rod type
There are two types of storage mechanisms for pack rods.
First, let me explain what the differences are.
Telescopic rod
A telescopic stream rod similar to a fishing rod for sea bass or bait fishing.
The rod parts can be stored inside the rod without falling apart, making it the most compact rod.
They generally use the same guide rods as those used in sea fishing rods, but they are inferior in design.
Multi-piece rod
A compact rod with multiple sections.
It allows for guide settings similar to those of typical 1-piece and 2-piece rods and has a high level of design.
Telescoping rods are easier to store, and the manufacturing costs increase as the number of connection points increases.
Convenience of pack rod
Reason 1: It makes moving around and high winding easier.
When fishing in mountain streams, there are cases when it is impossible to climb out of a location due to large pools or dams.
In such cases, you will need to climb up the mountainside and go around the areas that are inaccessible (known as "high-altitude climbing") .
If you use a pack rod that can be stored compactly, you can put the rod in your backpack and keep both hands free.
Similarly, when fishing in the headwaters of a river, which often requires several hours of walking or cycling from the car park before entering the river, a pack rod that can be stored in a backpack allows you to move around safely, as it leaves both hands free.
You won't have to worry about slipping and causing the rod to snap .
Reason 2: You can carry it in your backpack as a spare rod.
When fishing in mountain streams, it is common for beginners to slip, especially those who are not used to it.
When fishing at the headwaters of a river, far away from your car, your rod may break in an unexpected accident...
For that reason, in order to avoid wasting a precious day, we recommend keeping a spare rod in your backpack.

The biggest disadvantage of pack rods is the problem of power loss.
Why does power loss occur?
This is due to the large number of "joints" that result from the compact design.
This joint is only necessary for the rod to be attached and will have a negative effect on rod action.
The joints of the rod inevitably become stiff, as shown in the photo below, which puts strain on both ends.

If a hard part is present, both ends of the hard part will bend more than necessary.
This leads to power loss, resulting in reduced sensitivity, reduced power transmission, and reduced strength.

Often damaged during transportation
This is mainly true for telescopic rods.
In many cases, the top cover does not function properly, causing the tip to break when pressure is applied from above.
In the unlikely event that the tip breaks, you can keep repair costs down by recovering the guide parts as well!
How to store pack rods
To prevent damage during transport, pack rods can be stored in the included case, or carried in a cylindrical case for added style.
You can also make your own rod case using PVC pipes.
If you want to make your own case while keeping costs down, we recommend using PVC pipes!

The design will be cute and luxurious.
Due to the structure of the telescopic rod, it is inevitable that the tension will be too strong, so we have used a glass composite material to reduce the tension while ensuring the resilience necessary to handle large fish.
Personally, I don't like the guides that are used on fishing rods, so I decided to use a guide setting that is more like a lure rod, with the guide wound on top of a pipe.
It does cost money, but the cool look of it not being recognizable as a telescopic rod when extended is something that is definitely worth considering.
We are currently making the final adjustments and putting together a design for a case that will be easy to carry around, so please look forward to it.
