Saulstrout spin ferrule

This time, at the request of a customer, we will be converting two Saurus Trout Spins into ferrules all at once!

Zaurus' rod designs have a unique, classic feel that is very stylish and cool.

This time, we will explain the process so that customers can customize it themselves, but if you are a little hesitant to do it yourself...

We are currently accepting ferrule conversion services for other companies' products for those who are looking for such services.

If you are interested, please see this page.

STEP 1 Remove the ferrule attachment parts

34mm of blank is exposed for fitting ferrules.

For a trout rod, a bonding width of about 30mm will be fine.

First, remove the front grip with pliers.

*Please be careful not to damage the blank at this time.

If the front grip were a little longer, you could simply remove the front grip to ensure a ferrule mounting width of 34 mm, but since the rod in this case had a short grip, we also removed the aluminum screw parts.

It's very hot right after heating, so you'll need to remove it with pliers.

The removal of all necessary parts is now complete!

STEP 2 Cutting the blanks

The aluminum ring under the decorative wrap has a stepped section, so when the ferrule is attached a gap will appear.

Therefore, we will not use this aluminum ring, but instead use our aluminum ring WC-7.5, so we will need to apply heat to clean off any adhesive marks in order to remove it.

Check the position where the ferrule insertion width is 34mm and determine where to cut!

There will also be traces of glue in the areas to be cut, so clean them up to expose the blank.

Mark the cutting position with masking tape and cut.

It is also possible to cut it with a hacksaw!

The cut was completed successfully!

STEP 3: Installing the ferrule

Next, heat the aluminum ring over an alcohol lamp and remove it.

Be careful not to heat it too much, as this can damage the decorative coating on the top and the blank.

Remove the aluminum ring with pliers, being careful not to burn yourself.

Once the aluminum ring is removed, pass the WC-7.5 through the blank in advance.

Also clean the area where the ferrule will be attached.

A gap has appeared between the ferrule and the blank, so we will adjust the gap by wrapping thread around it and fixing it with instant glue.

Assemble the ferrules temporarily and if there is no noise when you shake the rod, it's OK!

Once the gap filling work is completed, apply a two-component epoxy bond to the inside of the ferrule and the blank.

Insert the ferrule while slowly turning it.

Wipe off any excess glue with alcohol-soaked tissue and you're done!

The ferrules really match Zaurus' classic design.

Once I attached the grip, it looked even more stylish and cool!

Thank you for your request.
